CLA

I caught an episode of Dr. Oz last week about melting fat and losing weight. What's strange about this is that my mom called me and told me about it, too. While in Walmart Friday evening, I picked up some CLA to see just how it works. I started taking it Saturday evening when we got back from the beach. I did that because, according to WebMD, it can cause diarrhea and I didn't want to deal with that away from home.

I've taken it twice a day since the first dose and it's not bad. There's no after taste but I think they look like leeches. According to Dr. Eva Selhub, this supplement works in addition to diet and exercise. Apparently, it speeds up thermogensis in the body, which helps melt fat. So I figured it couldn't hurt.

Take a look at the video to learn more about CLA.

Since my last post, I've gotten off my butt and cleaned the house. During this time, the boys have done everything in their power to screw me up. They've been fighting, making messes, not listening, you name it. I can't stand it anymore!

Typical Weekend

I was so excited for school to be over so that I could have more free and family time. Well, I've been out of school for a month now and I still feel like I don't have enough time to get everything done. We spent yesterday at the beach, which means all of my housework was left until today.

HEALTH UPDATE

Today was my 3 month check up with the doctor and I was nervous, to say the least. I always get nervous when I visit the doctor and I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe it's because I'm obese, or maybe it's because there are so many health issues on both sides of my family. I just don't know.

It's Time to Love MYSELF

Because I have a DVR, I rarely know what shows come on which nights. Right now, I'm sitting here watching last night's episode of Extreme Weight Loss. I can't tell you how much I identify with Trina! No, I'm not a nurse, but I am a giver. I give to everyone before I give to myself. I realized Monday in therapy that I'm looking at taking care of myself all wrong.

Here lately, I've been so bored with everything, including work. It just doesn't do it for me anymore and I don't know why. I used to love my work but things have obviously changed. I just don't want to do anything. I talked to the hubs about it yesterday and this is what we came up with.

Worst Food Experiences

Here lately, we've been eating out a lot. Mainly because our schedules have been so hectic. As a result, I've been to various establishments lately and not had the best experiences. I can't believe how little pride people take in their jobs.

Student Loans are In

Okay, so I was so excited when class was over because it was my last one, right? Yeah, well, I'm not so excited anymore. Last week I received a bill from a lender stating my account was over due. What?! I called and got that sorted out. Today, however, I had to participate in exit counseling as part of my financial aid requirement. That scared the sh!t out of me!

My Perfect Woman

As I was swimming laps in the pool this afternoon, I was thinking about my perfect woman. This woman is intelligent, strong, beautiful, and healthy. This woman is also confident, secure, and has a positive self image. She is kind, trustworthy, empathetic, rational, and loving. Who is this woman?

Be sure you read the title as it was intended - using the voice of the magician in "Frosty the Snowman". Last week I was thrilled to reach a milestone but this week has been just the opposite. I've done nothing! No workouts, not even the pool, and my food choices have been less than stellar. There have been some things going on but that's no excuse for me not to make healthy choices. Before long, I'll be working to reach that same milestone again. Who likes doing the same job twice?

Getting Crafty

School is officially over (hot diggity damn!) and I've already found myself with an abundance of free time. In preparation for this, I went out last weekend and bought some yarn and some jewelry making supplies. It's time to get crafty with my bad self! I've already made 2 bracelets, a pair of earrings, and a cowl scarf. I've been busy!

Weigh In

Time to state the obvious - it's Monday. That means it's another day for me to weigh in. While I didn't see the biggest loss on the scale today, I did see a loss! I've been weighing in every day so I can keep on top of things. I'm thrilled to report that I've seen a loss every day. Do you know what that means? It means I made the scale my bitch!

2 Weeks!

I have 2 weeks left of class and it's officially all over! After 8 long, hard, stressful years, it's come down to these last 2 weeks. I'm proud of what I've accomplished and I hope I've taught my boys a valuable lesson - you're never too old to go back to school. I'm in a place of panic right now because I don't know what's next.

Fat - Where Does It Go?

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

When you think of shedding pounds, do you think of the fat literally falling off? I do. I imagine fat falling off like hair during a hair cut. But, as we all know, it doesn't happen like that. So, if you're losing weight, where does it go?

Swimming

Although summer hasn't officially begun, it's hot enough to say it has. I'm looking forward to the water being warm enough in the pool for me to get in and start some laps. Swimming, in my opinion, is the best exercise around because you're working all of your muscles at once.

Although today is Monday, it's been a fabulous day! I had a great talk with a wonderful friend this morning and I lost more weight! I feel like I can take on the world! The best part of all of this is that I'm doing it myself. This time, there's no diet pills, supplements, or shakes included.

Almost to Goal!

I've been watching what I eat and working out for a while now and it's starting to pay off. My goal was to lose 20 pounds by July 26 (next doctor appt) and I'm almost there! So far, I've lost 13.6 pounds and it's only June 2! That means I have 53 days to lose roughly 7 pounds. If I can't lose 7 pounds in almost 2 months, something's wrong with me.

I realized I'm an emotional eater a few months ago, thanks to the book "Coaching Yourself Thin". I've been dealing with some, quite frankly, bullshit here lately and I've started to think more clearly about my health because of it.

Can Childhood Friends Stand the Test of Time?

Friday, May 24, 2013

I'm in a funky situation in which I'm wondering if childhood friends can stand the test of time. You'd think that these relationships would endure because you've known this person for most of your life. However, people change and, sometimes, not for the better. Is your friendship strong enough to last a lifetime?

Processed Food

I love processed food! Who doesn't?! Here's the deal though. How do we know what's good for us and what isn't? Yes, fresh fruits and veggies are awesome and we should all eat more of them. But, lets get real, we're not going to stop buying processed food. What is processed food? From what I understand, processed food is all food that isn't fresh and is prepackaged at the supermarket.

Ugh, McDonald's

I'm working on losing a massive amount of weight and I'm constantly fighting with myself. I love the caramel frappe from McDonald's but it certainly doesn't love me. Even if my husband is out and about, I'll convince him to bring me home a frappe. I've tried searching online for recipes to make them at home (to save money and calories) but it just doesn't taste the same. If you have a tried and true recipe to dupe the McDonald's caramel frappe, please share it! :-)

Family Sucks (Sometimes)

I'm currently dealing with a he said, she said issue with my brother and sister-in-law. How I wish family members didn't gossip and twist conversations so much. Most of this wouldn't be an issue if those family members would keep their mouths shut. My brother has been hearing things I've "said" but I've never said them! There's only 3 people who could relay this information to him. With that being said, I've decided to never speak about my brother or sister-in-law to them again. Let's see what they have to say now.

Makeup Geek vs. Sigma Stippling Brush

Let me preface this post by saying that I'm a makeup addict from way back. I love all things related to cosmetics and have since I can remember. Sometime in 2011, I came across Marlena's site, www.makeupgeek.com, and I felt like I was in heaven. So many people sharing the same makeup addiction in one place. I was thrilled!

Worker's Comp Nightmare

Hubby was injured at work 3 years ago and has undergone 3 surgeries on his dominant arm. Anyone who's ever been in this, or a similar position, knows that dealing with worker's comp is nothing short than a major pain in the ass. The big insurance company is exempt from any responsibility and can basically do what they want, when they want.

Health Hazard

I went to the doctor this morning to get the results of my blood work and to get my blood pressure checked. Well, my BP was high (150/100) but I think most of that was because I was severely annoyed with having to sit in the waiting room for 25 minutes. What's the point in making appointments? I'm sure it went higher when I was sitting in the exam room for another 30 minutes. Okay, I get go off on that tangent or I'll be here all night! Anyway, on to the results...

Motivation

One of my all-time favorite sagas is Rocky but my favorite is Rocky IV. I was sitting around with the boys this morning (fog delay) talking about Mozart (I don't even remember how that conversation started) when I opened YouTube to find the Falco song "Rock Me Amadeus" for my oldest. Because this song was released in the mid-80's, YouTube so graciously showed similar videos and some of them were from the Rocky movies. Needless to say, I watched them and realized something.
