Weigh In

Monday, June 10, 2013
Time to state the obvious - it's Monday. That means it's another day for me to weigh in. While I didn't see the biggest loss on the scale today, I did see a loss! I've been weighing in every day so I can keep on top of things. I'm thrilled to report that I've seen a loss every day. Do you know what that means? It means I made the scale my bitch!
Now, some would say that weighing in everyday isn't good but I disagree. I've found that it helps keep me on track better because I see the slightest gain/loss as it happens, basically. While the numbers aren't big, a loss is a loss and that's better than a gain any day. And, I'm not the only person who does a weigh in everyday. Check out this article about Candace Cameron Bure (D.J. on Full House) who also checks her weight every day.

Obviously, this method isn't for everyone so keep that in mind. I've done weigh ins once a week, once every other week, and even once a month. While the numbers were much bigger, I didn't stick with it. I've found that having a weigh in every day helps me stay on track better than anything I've tried in the past. Isn't that what it's all about - staying on track? You have to find what works for you and stick to it!

If I see a gain on the scale, I think about the day before and I ask myself the following questions:

  • Did I eat too much crap yesterday?
  • What can I do to be healthy but take off what I've gained?
  • Am I just retaining water?
  • Is it hormonal?

If I've been on track, then I know it's something I can't completely control. Our bodies are going to do what they're going to do no matter what we have to say about it. For us women, we're always going to have periods of weight gain (thanks Mother Nature) but we can still lose weight in the process. If you think you're retaining water, I suggest cutting back on the added salt and drink plenty of water. Water flushes out water and it's good for you. There are great alternatives to salt, like Mrs. Dash and NoSalt. I've been using NoSalt for almost 9 years and don't even miss "real" salt anymore. It's the little things that have the biggest impact.

Time for me to get going. I've been so busy at the office today that I didn't get my workout in. Time to get that done so I don't see a gain at tomorrow's weigh in. :)
